Elgar: Dream of Gerontius

  • Shrewsbury Abbey Shrewsbury Abbey (map)

Following last year’s highly successful collaboration performing Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Shrewsbury Cantata Choir, our two choirs are coming together again this summer under the banner of Shrewsbury Festival Chorus to perform Elgar’s “Dream of Gerontius” under the direction of Cantata’s Musical Director, Anthony Coupe.

Elgar’s setting of Cardinal John Henry Newman’s poetry has long been regarded as a pinnacle of the choral repertoire and we are delighted to be able to bring it to Shrewsbury Abbey.

Soloists -  Kate Trethewey, Will Smith, Peter Edge.
Conducted by Anthony Coupe
Leader - Anne Tupling
